Mouse studies suggest ablating meningeal lymphatic vessels with Visudyne verteporfin could help treat MS. In the experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) mouse model of MS, injection into the cisterna magna of Visudyne followed by laser light targeted to five locations on the intact skull -- the cisterna magna, the left and right transverse sinuses, the superior sagittal sinus and the junction of all sinuses -- to ablate meningeal vessels decreased clinical disease scores compared with vehicle plus laser light.
