UCSD's gene drive-like tech for faster, better animal models

A gene drive-like system from a UCSD team could bring the creation of rodent models of multigenic diseases within easy reach of biotechs by cutting the costs associated with making them.
Generating rodent models of multigenic diseases via natural breeding is limited by Mendelian inheritance. For example, if two mouse parents are heterozygous for three recessive disease-associated mutations, only about 1 in 150 offspring will be homozygous for all three, which makes for a poor return on the resources invested...
