March 19, 2012 7:00 AM UTC

In animals, Tekmira's TKM-ALDH2 reduced liver aldehyde dehydrogenase 2 family mitochondrial (ALDH2) protein to undetectable levels (<2%) and increased blood acetaldehyde levels - a biomarker of aldehyde dehydrogenase inhibition - following the introduction of alcohol. Additionally, a single dose of TKM-ALDH2 reduced levels of ALDH2 mRNA by >40% at 4 weeks. Data were presented at the Asia TIDES Oligonucleotide and Peptide Technology and Product Development meeting in Tokyo. TKM-ALDH2 is a short interfering RNA (siRNA) targeting ALDH2 that was formulated using lipid nanoparticle delivery technology. ...
