The parties settled a patent infringement suit brought by Barnes-Jewish Hospital in May 1995 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maine alleging that IDXX was infringing U.S. Patent No. 4,839,275 covering methods and compositions to diagnose canine heartworm infection. Under the settlement, IDXX will pay Barnes-Jewish Hospital $5.5 million for rights to the technology.
