Siga gains on potential smallpox contract

Siga Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:SIGA) gained $3.91 (46%) to $12.47 on Wednesday after announcing HHS intends to award a contract for Siga's smallpox antiviral pending resolution of issues related to the company's status with the Small Business Administration. The five-year contract would cover the delivery of 1.7 million courses of the ST-246 smallpox antiviral to the Strategic National Stockpile for about $500 million. HHS has options to expand the contract to include up to an additional 12 million courses, which the company said could bring the total contract value to about $2.8 billion.
