CMS projects increasing prescription drug spending

CMS's Office of the Actuary said 2014 prescription drug spending is expected to increase by 6.8% to $290.7 billion, or 9.5% of projected total healthcare spending, with the growth driven in part by the newly insured and people switching insurance plans under the Affordable Care Act.
