Boyce Thompson researchers and colleagues published in Nature Biotechnology that transgenic potato tubers expressing HBV surface antigen (HBsAg) at levels of 1.1 ug per gram of tuber elicited HBsAg-specific antibodies when fed to mice in 3 weekly doses together with a cholera toxin adjuvant. However, the researchers noted that use of the transgenic potatoes as an oral vaccine against HBV infection will require expression of HBsAg at higher levels. ...
