In a rat model of stroke, GGF2 given 24 hours after ischemia significantly improved sensorimotor recovery vs. vehicle-treated controls. Acorda said the improvements in function were not associated with reduced lesion volume, but that the compound did significantly increase expression of growth associated protein 43 (GAP43) within the brain both close to and distant from the area of injury vs. controls.
