NIH to create translational center

NIH Director Francis Collins Tuesday indicated that he will accept a recommendation from an advisory committee to create the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS). NIH's Scientific Management Review Board recommended locating NIH programs with annual budgets of about $700 million in the new center, as well as the Cures Acceleration Network that Congress authorized in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act but has not funded.
