CIRM awards $40M for new genomics center

The California Institute for Regenerative Medicine awarded $40 million to create a Center of Excellence in Stem Cell Genomics. Stanford University and the Salk Institute for Biological Studies will be joint principal investigators for the center, which will focus on using genomics and stem cell research to understand disease processes and develop treatments for cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular and mental health diseases. The University of California, San Diego; Scripps Research Institute; the J. Craig Venter Institute; and Illumina Inc. (NASDAQ:ILMN) will also collaborate.
