December 14, 2017 8:57 PM UTC

Andreessen Horowitz said it raised a $450 million fund that will invest in companies at the "intersection of biology and engineering." General Partners Vijay Pande and Jorge Conde will co-manage the fund.

The vehicle is Andreessen Horowitz's second life sciences-related fund. In 2015, the VC raised $200 million to invest in software companies that address the life sciences sector. The firm has made 12 investments in life sciences and biology-related fields, including in bioinformatics play twoXAR Inc. (Palo Alto, Calif.) and disease screening company Freenome Inc. (South San Francisco, Calif.) (see BioCentury Extra, Nov. 18, 2015)...
