CHMP says viral DNA in vaccines not harmful

The European Medicines Agency's CHMP concluded that the unexpected presence of viral DNA from porcine circovirus (PCV) in live attenuated vaccines does not pose a risk to public health because the virus does not cause disease in humans. CHMP identified porcine trypsin, a reagent used in vaccine manufacturing, as the most likely cause for the presence of PCV DNA and recommended that guidance be developed on use of the reagent. ...
