Icahn to nominate Genzyme slate

Genzyme Corp. (NASDAQ:GENZ) received notice that investor Carl Icahn plans to nominate himself and three others for election to the company's board at this year's annual meeting. The other nominees are Steven Burakoff, Alexander Denner and Richard Mulligan. All of Genzyme's nine board seats are up for election this year. The annual meeting is scheduled for May 20. At Dec. 31, 2009, Icahn held 4.8 million shares of Genzyme, or 2%, based on 270.2 million shares outstanding.

Last month, Genzyme agreed to a deal with Relational Investors that has at least temporarily deferred having to add an activist investor to the company's board (See BioCentury, Jan. 11, 2010). ...
