Wellcome researchers demonstrated in vitro that the combination of 3TC with AZT prevents emergence of HIV virus resistant to AZT.

Resistance to 3TC is conferred by a single mutation at codon 184 in the viral enzyme, with substitution of valine or isoleucine for methionine. But this mutation also suppresses AZT resistance in vitro, as reported in Science. ...
