Biden administration commits more than $3B to COVID-19 antiviral development, pandemic preparedness

The Biden administration is allocating more than $3 billion from American Rescue Plan funding towards its Antiviral Program for Pandemics, a collaboration between federal health agencies to support the development of COVID-19 therapeutics and create drug discovery collaborations focused on pandemic preparedness. 

Under the program, NIH will evaluate, prioritize and advance antiviral candidates into Phase II testing with more than $300 million to research and lab support, nearly $1 billion for preclinical and clinical testing and nearly $700 million for development and manufacturing through National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA). ...
