At least 12 Italian biotech start-ups have raised a seed or series A round since the start of 2020, reflecting the region’s growing capacity to support biotech company creation.
European VC firm Sofinnova Partners has been a powerhouse in the region, leading or co-leading nine of the 12 financings, mostly by way of its Sofinnova Telethon Fund. The vehicle launched two years ago in a partnership with Italian charity Fondazione Telethon with €108 million ($117.4 million) to invest in rare genetic disease start-ups in Italy. ...
