Bribery allegations at Indian drug regulator

Central Bureau of Investigation alleges widespread corruption

The Indian Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested S. Eswara Reddy, joint drug controller at the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization and a former drug controller general of India, along with another CDSCO official, two pharma industry consultants and a biopharma executive. The five individuals were charged on June 19 with "criminal conspiracy, cheating, forgery, to influence a public servant by corrupt or illegal means and bribery.”

In addition to those charged, the CBI alleged that other “unknown officials” at CDSCO, part of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, have accepted bribes. ...
