BGI Genomics placed on list of Chinese military companies operating in the U.S.

The U.S. Department of Defense has added BGI Genomics to a list of “Chinese Military Companies Operating in the United States.” The designation not trigger specific actions, a BGI spokesperson told BioCentury.

Creation of the list was mandated in the Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2021. The law stipulated that the list include companies operating in the U.S that are owned or controlled by the Chinese People’s Liberation Army or “any other organization subordinate to the Central Military Commission of the Chinese Communist Party.” ...
