IQVia: 53% of retail prescriptions costing over $250 are abandoned
Average out-of-pocket costs may not be increasing much, but the long tail still led to millions of abandoned prescriptions in 2022
A new report from IQVia found that when out-of-pocket costs exceeded $250, over half (53%) of retail prescriptions were abandoned last year, which corresponded to 11 million prescriptions left at the pharmacy counter.
Those numbers could be easy to overlook given the report’s top-line findings that overall growth in retail out-of-pocket costs was negligible in 2022, and that half of all retail prescriptions for branded drugs cost $0 out of pocket. ...
