Sanders, other Democrats demand NIH invoke powers to reduce drug prices

Senate Democrats are pressing the Biden administration to take steps to lower drug prices, including by exercising NIH’s rights to “march-in” on patents and by including clauses in NIH technology transfer agreements that require “reasonable prices” on drugs developed as a result of the agreements.

While there is little chance of enacting drug pricing legislation while Republicans are in control of the House, Democrats could try to use their power over confirmations as leverage to pry these and other policy changes out of the Biden administration. ...
