A genomic study to identify ancestry-specific mutations and predictors of survival in Black acute myelogenous leukemia patients, who have been underrepresented in AML genomics studies, identified a novel tumor mutation, and showed a risk classification framework based on European patients was not predictive in this population.

Using whole-exome sequencing, researchers from Ohio State University and collaborators compared the genetic mutation frequency of leukemic cells from 100 Black AML patients with that of 323 white AML patients, and identified 162 recurrent mutations in Black patients, only 27% of which occurred in white patients...
