Postponement of joint Rare Disease Day event, threats from Musk, and unexplained reprieves for some fired last week

Public health agency employees were shaken again over the weekend after a few more turns on the Trump administration roller coaster. The latest turbulence includes the last-minute postponement of a major rare disease day event that caught patients and their families by surprise, an email making demands and threatening firings for non-compliance and the sudden rehiring of some FDA staff who had been abruptly dismissed just days before.

FDA and NIH staff at all levels, from leadership to entry level, told BioCentury over the weekend that they are afraid that they will be abruptly fired, or that working conditions will become intolerable and they will be forced to leave government service. ...
