Senate confirmation of leaders for FDA and NIH marks an inflection point for agencies that have experienced an extraordinary level of turmoil over the past nine weeks. In the absence of permanent heads, acting leaders relayed instructions from the White House and Department of Government Efficiency without regard for negative effects on the ability of FDA and NIH to perform their missions.
