A stabilizer for the transmembrane ATPase ATP1A1 that promotes its interaction with the ATP-gated ion channel P2RX7 in microglial membranes could help treat stress-induced anxiety by decreasing potassium efflux and downstream NLRP3-driven adoption of pathogenic microglial phenotypes that increase neuronal hyperexcitability and decrease neurogenesis.
