Canada agrees to 10 years exclusivity for biologics

Canada agreed late Sunday to a revamped North American trade agreement deal that extends biologics market protection to 10 years, extending the eight years of protection that Canada currently offers. The trade agreement, dubbed the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), revises the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
The deal came just in time for a Sept. 30 deadline, which the U.S. established to allow time for Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto to sign prior to leaving office on Nov. 30. Mexico had agreed to terms in August, but biologics exclusivity was one of several sticking points delaying Canada's approval of a new pact (see "Canada Balks at U.S. Demands for 10 Years of Biologics Exclusivity")...
