CMS considering coverage policy for genetic tests

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services is considering issuing National Coverage Determinations (NCDs) for genetic testing and whole genome sequencing, according to a list of potential NCD topics released by the agency. Currently, CMS has issued an NCD that requires Medicare reimburse genetic testing for warfarin response. The agency also noted that there are some local coverage determinations (LCDs) issued by regional contractors that cover reimbursement for genetic testing for specific diseases and conditions.
